There are a lot of ways to put your abilities to work
Learning about the needs of children who experience out-of-home placement can be overwhelming. We understand that growing your family through foster care or adoption isn’t the right fit for everyone. If you feel compelled to support the cause, we are happy to find a way for you to get involved.
become an ambassador
Help spread the word about foster care, adoption and the children who wait!
Your workplace, community group or place of worship can be the perfect place to share the need. We are looking for a diverse pool of individuals and families who may consider adopting and are open to learning more.
Our experienced staff is happy to meet with you and your group. We will determine what is the best fit for you and your network. Examples include: hosting information session(s), having a table at a resource fair, presenting at a Coffee Talk or Brown Bag Lunch event.
We’ve worked with Ambassadors at several churches, community groups across the Twin Cities and companies such as Target, Wells Fargo and General Mills. We look forward to connecting with you.

Use social media
Like our Facebook page, then share stories and posts about waiting children that tug at your heartstrings. We’ve had a few viral moments for waiting children, the more shares a post can get, the more eyes on those kids and the more potential families reached. Together, we can use social media for good!Facebook Instagram Pinterest
Children often enter and move about the foster care system with whatever can be carried. It is common for belongs to be tossed into trash bags for transport. We think children deserve better.
Foster families, including relatives and kin, often take in children with little time to prepare. Stipends help cover some costs but take time to kick in. Families often face immediate needs upon opening their hearts and homes.
You can help! This may mean grabbing a backpack that will go to a teen entering care for the first time or buying an extra pack of diapers on your next store run that will go to an emergency shelter provider caring for infants.
On a larger scale, you can involve your workplace, community organization or place of worship in a donation drive. We can help provide you with signage, collection, photo opportunities, etc. We’ll be happy to share your organization’s contributions on social media.See a current list of needs
Whether you are looking for internships, special event opportunities or group experiences volunteering with Children’s Home and LSS can be a great way to leave a lasting impact.
Currently, we are interested in hosting groups of 5-30 to make Customized Tie Blankets for children waiting in foster care. During your volunteer experience, we will provide you with an overview of the foster care system in Minnesota and talk about some specific children who wait. As you get to know more about these children, you’ll be making tie blankets that are customized to their likes (think favorite colors, sports team or characters). You’ll gain insight and knowledge you can share, and the children will gain a warm, personal, momento that can transition with them.Learn about internships & other volunteer opportunities

blog about it
Blogs can be powerful mechanisms to spread the word about foster care and adoption. It can also be a wonderful way to feature waiting children. We can help guide you on how to advocate in a respectful manner which honors both the child and the requirements of counties, states and countries.
In general, identifying photos of children cannot be shared unless consent is explicitly given. When advocating for waiting children we will often blur photos, and when photos can be shown we eliminate other identifying information such as country of origin, legal name, etc.View Waiting Children
