Gabe is a 16-year-old waiting for adoption from foster care. We’ve written about him a few times in the past, but these write-ups just don’t do him justice. We’ve had a number of events with waiting youth lately, and our staff keep coming back to the office talking about how Gabe stole the show. Whether it’s been the Adoption Fun Fest, the Birthday Celebration at Dave and Busters, or Circus of the Heart, he has been found hamming it up to get people laughing and talking.
“He loved joking around with the Vikings players,” shares Sara, his Child-Specific Recruiter. This is no surprise, Gabe loves to joke around with people. “He likes to tease me about being old. It’ll typically start when he uses slang and I have to ask him ‘what does that mean?'” explains Sara. “He makes me feel like I’m cool and old at the same time.”
“Gabe is a kind soul who is very entertaining.” – Sara
Gabe and Sara often drive around so he can blast the music. He really likes rap—Drake, Eminem and Jay-Z. They’ll also stop by the community center so Gabe can play basketball, visit the library, socialize or play computer games. He’s obsessed with computer games, especially Agar.io.
He likes to win and tackle a challenge. When giving Sara ideas for presents, Gabe said, “If you get me something for Christmas this year, get me a 1,000 piece puzzle. I really like to be challenged.”
When he’s at home, he spends his time posting videos to his YouTube channel. His latest video was a meditation video. He mixed calming music to create a background and then overlaid verbal cues to help his audience meditate. His dream is to become a YouTube star.
Gabe would thrive in a family that can provide lots of positive attention, patience and consistency. He does best when he is given structure, routine and strong boundaries. It would be beneficial if Gabe was the youngest or only child in the home. He would like to maintain living in the area, but is open to moving somewhere further away.
Details to Note
The majority of costs to Minnesota clients adopting a child under Minnesota state guardianship are covered by a contract with the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

Meet oTHER WAITING CHILDREN
During December we are advocating for 12 children who currently wait for families. We appreciate any time you take to get to know these children and consider whether your family, or a family you know, could be theirs.
