Could you be Ming’s advocate?

June 9, 2016 by Staff Contributor

A picture for Ming who waits for adoption. Could you become an advocate volunteer in China?Join us in China as a Connect for Kids volunteer!

When we look for a family for a waiting child in China, we work off of important information provided by the orphanage, most of which is medical.  We often receive updates, which are really helpful, but nothing can take the place of descriptions and anecdotes that come firsthand from people who have spent quality time with a child.

So often a child gets lost behind the paperwork, and the amazing nine-year-old boy barely gets a chance to shine through.  But all that changes when we can talk about Ming* firsthand: about how he likes to create origami and piece together puzzles—and how he thinks his friend sings better than he does, but he himself is the better dancer!

Get to Know Ming

In addition to his artsy side, Ming is a boy who will not be stopped. Despite abnormalities in his feet, he can still run, jump and dance. One orphanage volunteer described him as curious and charming. He also appears to have very good self-esteem. The volunteer watched him pick a small flower and give it to a little girl as she got off the bus.

Ming is a boy who could take part in our Connect for Kids program in October.  He’s been waiting for a family since birth, and our hope is that with greater advocacy efforts, the right family will come forward.

Join us in China this October to get to know Ming and other children who wait. We will help you build your advocacy tool kit to get the word out so we can help Ming join his new family.

Learn More About Ming

If you would like to know more about “Ming” now and see additional photos, please contact [email protected] and reference 214-05. Families may qualify for a grant through CH/LSS and Brittany’s Hope Foundation.

Join Us for Connect for Kids Advocacy Camp

If you would like to help advocate for Ming, and other children who wait in China, we encourage you to consider volunteering in our Connect for Kids camp. Connect for Kids is a week-long program, taking place October 22-29, 2016, that connects institutionalized children (ages 6-13) with volunteers who commit to serving as advocates in helping them find a family. As a volunteer of Connect for Kids, you will travel as a group to China and spend time getting to know children who are eligible for adoption, but who are still waiting in the system.
