Meet a Teen Who Is Goofy Around Friends: A youth waiting this December

December 17, 2019 by Staff Contributor

Jose smiles brightly against a grey wall. He waits to be adopted from foster care.In the last year, Jose has attended a number of activities with his Child-Specific Recruiter, Amy. “Someone donated tickets to the Thomson Reuters club, so we were able to experience a Twins game with special seats. Jose loved the game and the access to a buffet of delicious snacks,” shares Amy. “We also cheered on the Minnesota United in their new stadium—a first for both of us!”

Jose, a 15 year old waiting in foster care, tends to be quieter at events such as these, and like a typical teen, he likes to keep to himself and play on his phone in downJose, a teen waiting in foster care, smiles in front of a gatorade all mural at the Vikings training facility. moments. But Amy notes, “He is not afraid to be goofy once he warms up to somebody.”

This goofy personality came out when they visited the Minnesota Vikings training facility this fall. “He ran ladder drills, swerved between tackling dummies, got player autographs, and compared his hand size to those of players,” says Amy. “We also had a few laughs when he pretended to be doused with Gatorade against a mural in the facility.”

“Jose will do things—like floss—to try to make others laugh,” explains Amy. “He cares a lot about the people he’s close to and wants to make sure they are happy and okay.”

Amy loves to see these moments where Jose shines. “He’s doing so well. One of the biggest things I’ve witnessed in the last year is his growth in independence. That and how amazing he is as a big brother,” she shares. Jose’s siblings mean a lot to him, and his adoptive family will need to help maintain their contact. He also loves being a big brother and would enjoy joining an adoptive family that has kids.
