Devon is a 17-year-old teen waiting in Minnesota foster care
Every year, over 23,000 youth age out of foster care when they turn 18.1 These teens may not be young children, but they are still in need of a strong support system that is dedicated to helping them grow and prosper. They need families with a sense of humor, a lot of empathy and a willingness to learn along the way.
Last month, we brought your attention to Dajanae, and today we’d like to introduce you to Devon: a 17-year-old waiting in foster care for an adoptive family. Devon is a very realistic and polite young man. He is open with people he knows as well as people he has just met. Along with loving to chat with new people, Devon likes to embrace many new experiences. He likes all types of food and is open-minded when trying new things. He does well in school and enjoys being connected to his peers. He likes to watch sports and enjoys listening to many different genres of music.
Devon says his ideal family would be an African American mother and father. But this isn’t a deal breaker—he is open to any type of family if there is a connection. He knows, due to his age, that adoption will be difficult, but he is looking for a family to connect with that can help him move towards his independence. Devon would prefer to stay in the Twin Cities metro area and is open to having animals in the home.
Please help us find Devon a family before his 18th birthday so he can become one member of a loving family, instead of one more youth to be added to a statistic.
details To note
Because Devon waits in Minnesota foster care, only Minnesota residents are eligible to adopt him. The majority of costs to clients adopting a child under Minnesota state guardianship are covered by a contract with the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
