Share your favorite summer activities, learn about another culture, meet some great people and help an older child find a place to call home!
This year we are partnering with Kidsave to help older children from Colombia enjoy summer life in the U.S., with activities that help them find permanent, loving, adoptive families. Kidsave’s mission is to be a global voice for change: “We work with governments and communities worldwide to see that no orphan or foster child is forgotten, and every child grows up in a family with love and hope for a successful future.”
The Kidsave’s Summer Miracles Program provides waiting children from Colombia with the opportunity to experience family life, attend day camp and have some fun away from their orphanage or foster family. The children are typically 10-14 years old and some may have siblings. During the 4-5 week summer visit, Kidsave and families work together to help the children meet potential adoptive families.
You could become a host family! Two-parent, single-parent and same-sex families are welcome.
Hosting greatly increases adoptions and stable adult connections for teens and preteens.
Kidsave believes that a connected, caring relationship with an adult is the key factor in preventing youth violence. These adult connections help kids complete high school, avoid drugs and find productive jobs. Over 5,500 children have been hosted for family visits and have been matched with families through Kidsave. The organization pioneered the development of a Family Visit Model, which simply involves older children from orphanages and foster care visiting families over weekends and school vacations. The family visits are a basis for introducing children to people in the community who might be interested in adopting them.
