During National Foster Care Month, get to know a charming teen waiting in foster care for an adoptive family
Daving, who likes to be called Hunter, is a very personable, charming and easy-to-talk-to 17-year-old. He is interested in BMX and enjoys being active outside: doing things like fishing, hunting and archery. When he’s not outside, he likes to play video games.
Hunter is a very responsible and driven young man. He wanted to buy himself a cell phone, so he worked very hard to save the money to buy one for himself. He works at a local Chinese restaurant every day to meet his goals. Because of his love of the outdoors, he would like to work with the DNR in Forestry when he is done with school. He is also mature, calm and collected—joining in deep, long conversations with his workers and showing a skill in self-reflection as he works to see life from different perspectives and aims for long-term growth.
Hunter would do best in a two-parent home in which the parents enjoy spending time outdoors and can provide a highly structured environment. He is okay with the idea of having siblings and pets in the home. Following adoption, his family must be open to maintaining contact with his older sister.
details To note
Because Hunter waits in Minnesota foster care, only Minnesota residents are eligible to adopt him. The majority of costs to clients adopting a child under Minnesota state guardianship are covered by a contract with the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
