Thelma is a super chatty 16 year old waiting for an adoptive family in Minnesota foster care. She loves to joke around with others and has a dry, sarcastic sense of humor. She describes her self as caring, loving and appreciative. She is a social butterfly and does not have a hard time meeting new people!
Thelma is very creative and artistic. She enjoys painting and drawing in her free time. She also loves cooking and baking anything sweet. Last week she told her Child-Specific Recruiter, Kelly, all about the chicken alfredo she made. She was also really proud of the monkey bread she made recently.
Thelma has experienced a lot of disappointment in her life; we are looking for an family that is prepared to parent her and commit to her regardless of what happens in the future. To that end, the family must be ready to assure her that they won’t give up on her. She would do best in a family that can provide her structure yet trust her with her independence. She has recently been very positive and hopeful about adoption. She would like to live in a family with little siblings—she has a niece and nephew and talks about them all of the time. She also loves animals and would enjoy joining a family that has a pet. Thelma would prefer living in a smaller community and should ideally remain in Minnesota so that she can continue contact with biological family members.
Details to Note
The majority of costs to Minnesota clients adopting a child under Minnesota state guardianship are covered by a contract with the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

Meet oTHER WAITING CHILDREN
During December we are advocating for 12 children and sibling groups who currently wait for families. We appreciate any time you take to get to know these children and consider whether your family, or a family you know, could be theirs.
