Meet a Funny, Musical Teen: A youth waiting this December

December 13, 2017 by Staff Contributor

A picture of Kortez with a soft smile as he sits on the stairs in front of a window.Kortez is a very kind-hearted 14 year old. He is very willing to help others, has an amazing sense of awareness of everything going on around him, and a tremendous memory. He does not pass up an opportunity to tell a joke. Sometimes his jokes aren’t that funny, but he laughs so hard at himself it is hard not to laugh. He has a really great laugh.

Kortez has many interests. He loves Harry Potter—if he were attending Hogwarts, he says he would be in House Gryffindor because all of the most talented people live in that house. He enjoys creating things that make sentimental and unique gifts; things like bracelets or cards. Additionally, he likes swimming, biking, gymnastics, soccer, sledding, dancing, and singing. Every time he is with his Child-Specific Recruiter, Kelly, he will take her phone and sing along to the songs on it—he especially likes to play pop music and the Monster High soundtrack. He also likes to play piano—though he hasn’t had lessons yet. This passion for music drives him to not only sing, but to make up his own dance moves. He hopes that this passion will guide him in his dream of becoming a pop singer one day.

Kortez would like a caring and active family. He thrives in structured activities and would do best in a family that is comfortable providing clear boundaries. He would prefer a household with a single mom or two moms. He likes all types of animals but says he would ideally like to join a family with three cats. He would do best in a household where he is the only child, or where there are grown children out of the house. Kortez’s adoptive family should ideally live in Minnesota so that he can maintain contact with some of his biological family after his adoption.

Details to Note

The majority of costs to Minnesota clients adopting a child under Minnesota state guardianship are covered by a contract with the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

Meet oTHER WAITING CHILDREN

During December we are advocating for 12 children and sibling groups who currently wait for families. We appreciate any time you take to get to know these children and consider whether your family, or a family you know, could be theirs.
