To say that 15-year-old Jahnia loves music is an understatement. Attending choir class is the highlight of her school day, and she loves to sing some car karaoke when she’s not in school. “I’ve never listened to music so loudly in my car before,” explains her Child-Specific Recruiter, Brittany.
During their visits, Jahnia and Brittany will tuneĀ into some pop, R&B, hip hop or the Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack on their way to get something to eat. Lately, Jahnia’s been on a Panda Express kick, where she’ll get the honey walnut shrimp with fried rice. Then they’ll head to the library to pick out some new CDs—especially the NOW CDs.
“She’s a lot of fun to be around. She’s got an infectious personality” – Brittany
Jahnia would like a family that will encourage her to participate in extracurricular activities. She is hoping to go out for track this year and get more involved with sports. She was in gymnastics for a while and would love to get back into it.
It is very important to Jahnia that she is heard and listened to. She wants to know that her opinion is being considered. She’s very aware that she’s been through a lot, so she wants to be treated by others with an understanding of the life experience that has given her more wisdom and insight than other kids her age.
Jahnia would like an open-minded family that is patient. She enjoys going to church and likes the community aspect of church, so a family that attends church may be a good fit. She really wants to feel like a “normal kid,” and just like the typical teen she needs reminders about doing homework and laundry. She would do best as the only or youngest child in the home. She has some younger siblings that she would like to remain in contact with as well as some birth family members—she is open to moving, but would prefer to live in a metro area.
