Meet a lovable, smiley girl [includes video]

December 13, 2016 by Staff Contributor

A picture of Chen Chen smiling big with her volunteer Carly.Ten-year-old “Sunny” is a happy, outgoing and friendly girl. She recently joined in our Connect for Kids program with volunteers Katie and Carly (pictured with her to the right). She eagerly participated in the week’s activities and always greeted others with a smile. In photo after photo from the week, you see her smile shining brightly, highlighting how much fun she had.

“Sunny has a clear conscious and is truly a natural leader. Her curiosity of the world and eagerness to learn is greatly admired. If spoken to in English she will repeat every word said, perfectly, even though she doesn’t know much English,” said Carly. Sunny has used this eagerness to learn to teach herself to play the piano.

A picture of Sunny smiling big.Katie shared, “Sunny is the girl that everybody loves. She is kind, outgoing, smart, and holds her own when playing with the boys.” She enjoyed meeting new friends during the program and loved to use the volunteers’ cell phones. She also loved taking a trip to the zoo and especially seeing the elephant. But when asked if she could be any animal, she chose a giraffe. She noted that she likes giraffes since their necks are very long so they can see a bigger world!

Carly agreed: “Sunny is always playing with her peers and is liked by everyone, including her teachers. She loves listening to music, playing on phones, and gossiping about boys—a true preteen!”

Sunny recently had surgery for her medical condition which has helped her grow 7 cm taller! “She wears a back brace right now for protection after the surgery but that does not inhibit her in any way,” Katie noted. Sunny is optimistic about her condition and hopes to be a runner when she grows up.

Eligibility requirements vary so please inquire to discuss individual circumstances and eligibility.

Meet oTHER WAITING CHILDREN

During December we are advocating for twelve children and sibling groups who currently wait for families. We appreciate any time you take to get to know these children and consider whether your family, or a family you know, could be theirs.
