Foster Care & Adoption Education Class

FOR MINNESOTA FAMILIES INTERESTED IN FOSTERING OR ADOPTING CHILDREN FROM MINNESOTA FOSTER CARE
Regardless of the agency or county, if you plan to adopt from Minnesota foster care, attending classes is one of the first steps required. This is also a first step for those of you planning to foster through CH/LSS. In these classes, you will become familiarized with the children waiting to be adopted, their needs and the adoption process.
Topics that will be covered include:
- Overview of the child welfare system
- Parental drug/alcohol use
- Grief, loss & separation
- Abuse and neglect
- Mental health
- Cross-cultural parenting
- Transracial parenting
- Permanency needs of older youth
- Visitation & maintaining connections
- Teen panel
- Adoptive parent panel
If you are planning to foster/adopt with a partner or spouse, both of you must register and attend the entirety of these classes. If you are unable to attend the same session, one parent may register for a different session, the requirement will not be fulfilled until both of you have completed classes.
Location: Due to COVID-19 classes are being held virtually through 2020. Additional information on timing and access will be sent to you after registering.
