Parenting Sexual Behaviors

Tuesday, April 25, 2017

Event Navigation

A woman speaks to a group.

This is a training offered by MN Adopt.

Although it is not uncommon for adoptive and foster families to experience problematic sexual issues with their children, it is seldom, if ever, talked about. This leaves even highly experienced and skilled parents at a loss as to what to do and how to help their children. This training will provide caretakers with a context of how to identify and respond to a range of problematic sexual behaviors in children and youth, and will include:

  • A developmental context for not only sexual behaviors, but the functioning of the whole child
  • Concrete examples and techniques of how to prevent and effectively deal with problematic sexual behavior
  • Actual case examples to illustrate the successes and pitfalls when addressing sexual issues in children and youth

Danette Jones, MSSW, LICSW, LMFT has been a psychotherapist, consultant, college instructor, presenter, clinical supervisor, and school social worker for more than 30 years. She specializes in work with challenging children, youth and their families, particularly in the area of sexual issues. Danetteā€™s experience spans outpatient, residential, group home, inpatient, day treatment, and school settings and includes the extensive use of canine-assisted therapy and yoga-based/mindfulness practices. She has participated in published research, as well as presented locally and nationally on a variety of clinical topics.
