Adams Thermal Foundation Continues to Empower Generations in Ethiopia

January 24, 2018 by Staff Contributor

A school aged boy laughs in the foreground of a photo while a water hose is shown behind him along with a class of young kids in their uniform playing. As we reflect on the past year we are especially grateful to Adams Thermal Foundation for their amazing stewardship of our former Ethiopian humanitarian projects.

In 2013, when we decided to close our Ethiopian adoption program, it was critical we find an organization who could take over our schools and self-help groups. We wanted to ensure there was no interruption to services for the hundreds of beneficiaries. Adams Thermal Foundation, a charitable arm of Adams Thermal Systems, stepped up to the plate in a huge way.

Founder and adoptive parent, Mike Adams, had a vision for his company that was not only focused on keeping its plants open, but also on growing the company and serving the less fortunate.

As the adoption program was closing, time became of the essence and Adams Thermal Foundation was formed to keep the schools open and broaden the scope of the original vision.

Currently Adams Thermal Foundation employs a small staff in Addis and maintains both the Hossana and Ottoro Schools. They have also expanded the popular self-help groups which empower women to create lasting changes for themselves and their families. The foundation has a robust sponsorship program, which allows for the exchange of letters and updates via a convenient online portal. Together, the schools educate over 1,000 students, more than 75% of whom attend tuition-free.

Adams Thermal Foundation is able to do so much more than just educate—they provide health screenings, library access, meal programs at both schools, access to clean water, transportation, and uniforms. They have accomplished so much in the past few years. More than we, at Children’s Home, could’ve even envisioned.

  • Fiber-optic lines installed in Hossana
  • Summer school classes in Hossana and Ottoro
  • Added over 500 women to Self-Help Groups
  • Added grades 11 and 12 in Hossana
  • Funded a science laboratory in Hossana
  • Provided new uniforms for students in Hossana and Ottoro
  • Constructed and opened a high school in HossanaA young teen girl grins widely at the camera while in a crowd of her classmates. They all wear new uniforms provided by Adams Thermal Foundation.
  • Launched a meal program in Ottoro
  • Provided clean water access in Ottoro to 350 families

The commitment, drive and vision of Adams Thermal Foundation is unparalleled.  Grateful isn’t a big enough word to encompass our sincere gratitude for the stewardship of this projects. Adams Thermal has not only maintained essential services, they’ve expanded to impact more individuals, families and communities than we could’ve ever dreamed.
