Meet a Teen Who Loves Gospel Music: A youth waiting this December

December 15, 2019 by Staff Contributor

Ethan, smiles while holding up a small toy. He waits for adoption from foster care.Ethan is a 12 year old with a love of gospel music. Along with listening to it at church, he has recently been binging an old reality TV show about gospel singers called, “Sunday Best.” The music sticks with him throughout the day. “During our last meeting, he sang ‘Gracefully Broken’ by Tasha Cobbs to me,” shares his Child-Specific Recruiter, Stephanie.

When he’s not singing gospel, Ethan loves to watch his favorite shows, The Descendants and Winx, or play in the water. Ethan explains, “I love to go swimming. I can do hand stands in the water and back flips into the water.”

Ethan, who waits for an adoptive family, smiles with his arms crossed. Ethan is doing really well in school. He especially loves his cooking class and will try out things he’s learned in his kitchen at home.

While shy when you first meet, Ethan cares deeply once he’s built a relationship with people. “Ethan goes out of his way to make people laugh and smile,” Stephanie notes. “He has really good one-liners and can also be unintentionally funny.” And his personality shines through everything he does. “I really appreciate that he is super comfortable being who he is,” explains Stephanie. “It’s been awesome watching him grow up and become a confident teenager—to see him transform and do so well with caring support.”

Ethan needs an adoptive family that will support him with his daily living skills. His current placement currently offers a lot of guidance around hygiene and getting ready for school in the morning. He responds well to laid back parents that are more comfortable going with the flow, rather than trying to micromanage his behavior.

Get to Know Ethan More

Reel Hope recently spent time with Ethan to learn more about him. Watch the video they created to get to know his personality and hopes.

Details to Note

Ethan will have access to services and support after his adoption. The majority of costs to Minnesota clients adopting a child under Minnesota state guardianship are covered by a contract with the Minnesota Department of Human Services.

Ethan’s team is open to considering families out of state if they are committed to maintaining his birth family connections. Additional fees will apply for out-of-state families.

Learn More About Ethan

If you would like to know more about Ethan, please contact Stephanie Coleman at [email protected] or 651-255-2233. Families may have to provide certain documentation to receive full information.

Meet oTHER WAITING CHILDREN

During December we are advocating for 12 children who currently wait for families. We appreciate any time you take to get to know these children and consider whether your family, or a family you know, could be theirs.
