Meet Fernando, an empathetic, respectful, and considerate 16-year-old. He loves watching movies, hanging out with friends, playing sports, and eating all types of food!
“Fernando is very passionate about school and his future! He has aspirations to continue his education and wants to make a positive impact on his native community,” says Colleen Kue, his child specific recruiter.
When thinking about a forever family, Fernando hopes for a supportive network that can help motivate him as he works towards achieving his goals and dreams. He would thrive in a two-parent family home living in a diverse community, like the Twin Cities, where he can maintain connections with his native community — something that is very important to him. Fernando does well with pets in the home and would also do well with younger or older siblings in the home.
“Fernando is an amazing kid who wants a forever family to support and motivate him as he gets older,” says Colleen, his child specific recruiter. “He has a huge heart and can’t wait to be with his forever family!”
“A potential challenge Fernando faces is getting into the wrong crowd,” says, Colleen. “The best way for parents to support Fernando would be to check in on him, but not too aggressively, and make sure he is able to participate in school sports and other activities to keep him busy. He really enjoys staying active and being a part of the community!”
An ideal family for Fernando would need to be trauma informed and help him maintain connections with his birth family and his workers. The most important thing Fernando needs as he approaches young adulthood is support from stable adults around him. Positive role models who are encouraging, thoughtful, and actively involved in his life and interests will help him succeed in his academic and personal goals.
