Meet Thelma, an independent teen who turned 17 this August! Thelma is a very social person and loves meeting new people. Her dry and sarcastic sense of humor can make anyone laugh! Nights of hanging out with friends, talking and watching Netflix are her favorite. She likes any chance to connect with other people.
Thelma is very open to new experiences and loves trying new things. This summer she decided to get a fishing license and has been fishing ever since! She also likes trying new food, so for her birthday she went to a Mongolian BBQ restaurant and loved it!
Thelma is very driven. Lately she’s been meeting with a nutritionist once a month, counting her steps, and planning her meals. These are all steps to meet the fitness goals she set for herself; ones that she is determined to see through. When meeting with her Child-Specific Recruiter, she asks to go on walks so she’s sure to get her daily steps in!
Thelma is very determined to go to college and is actively exploring different career paths. She has been volunteering at a nursing home: spending time with the residents and playing the card game Uno with them. She has really enjoyed volunteering at the nursing home and is considering a career as a nurse, possibly even working with the elderly population.
Thelma needs a family that can give her structure and one who is committed to continuing to support her throughout and after college. She would thrive in a home that could give her a sense of belonging and security. While she plans to go to college, she would benefit from having a permanent family and place to return to at the end of the day.
She is open to considering all family dynamics though would do best with a single mom, two moms, or fathers who are understanding of trauma. She would like to stay in Central Minnesota, but is open to moving as well. She is in contact with her aunt and would like to maintain that relationship. Thelma would thrive as the oldest child in a family and would do very well with younger siblings.
