Meet a family-oriented teen who waits for a permanent, loving family

May 30, 2018 by Staff Contributor

Gabe smiles big while sitting on steps in front of a brick building. He waits for an adoptive family. This is our third advocacy post about Gabriel in the past three years—he just turned 16 and still waits for a family. We would love to make Gabe’s 16th year of life extra sweet by finding him a permanent, loving home.

Gabe is a talkative and animated teen with a great smile. He is not shy when meeting new people and has a very charming demeanor with a little bit of sass. He is really polite and has a great personality. “He’s really fun to be around,” shares Gabe’s child-specific recruiter, Kelly.

Gabe hams it up while spinning a basketball on his finger tip. He waits for an adoptive family.

Gabe and Kelly will often meet at the library or McDonald’s, where he enjoys his favorite: a strawberry shake with a cherry on top. They also like to play basketball or soccer in the park.

Kelly shared that Gabe is currently participating in Connections2Independence twice a week—a program that helps teens in foster care learn independent life skills. As part of the program he earns money that he can take out when he’s 18. He is always happy to do a chore for a little extra money—like gardening in the summer, or shoveling at neighbors’ houses in the winter.

Gabe is a very family-oriented teen. He has been in the same foster home for the last four years and has a strong connection with his foster parent and her son. He would thrive in a family that can provide lots of positive attention, patience and consistency. He does best when he is given structure, routine and strong boundaries. It would be beneficial if Gabriel was the youngest child in the home. He would like to maintain living in the area, but is open to moving somewhere relatively close by.

Gabe leans on his elbows and smiles at the camera. He waits in Minnesota foster care for an adoptive family.Details to Note

The majority of costs to Minnesota clients adopting youth under Minnesota state guardianship are covered by a contract with the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
