Hello! I’m Alex from St. Paul.

Before I say anything else, know that I respect and honor this first decision as this precious child’s mother/father/support system. I am a pediatric speech-language pathologist, piano teacher, reader, and crafter. After a lifetime of loving other people’s children and building a career of nurturing the development of their voices, I am eager to bring this joy into my home. I am choosing to enter motherhood as a single woman simply because it is quite literally all I have ever wanted. But I am not doing it alone. I have a deeply supportive community, all of whom will play a part in raising my family.

Here are a few things about me:

1) I don’t like most fruit

2) Getting places without GPS feels like a waste of mental energy

3) “Dance it out” is my favorite stress relief

4) I try really hard to be an animal person, but I just prefer humans

5) I love to travel and explore new places, but home has always been my favorite place

6) I care a lot about a lot and spend a lot of time thinking about how I can make life better and richer for myself and others

My Family

We are a combination of peacemakers and pot stirrers, dreamers and stabilizers, creators and caretakers. We are a family of introverts who are outgoing when we’re with our people. We talk about hard things just as passionately as we have a good time together. Between my parents, Courtney and Mary, my brother Kevin, his wife Shaena, and myself — we represent five very different personalities and sets of interests.

From my dad I learned hard work and perseverance and inherited his creativity. From my mom I learned selflessness, faith, and how to serve and love others well (including how to be a hostess and cook good food!). While I spend my free time finding some good live music, Kevin and Shaena are always up for a good hike. My family stretches each other and challenges each other, and we support each other through life changes and transitions.

The five of us at Shaena’s bridal shower at an extended family vacation.

Mom and I on a mother-daughter trip to San Francisco… biking across the Golden Gate!

My Friends

My friends are most part of my everyday life, and I truly regard them as my family. I see both Anne (my business partner) and Laura (my best friend) every day at work, and we very often are together on the weekends as well. I enjoy close relationships with my friends’ families, providing piano lessons to their children, developing relationships with their extended families, and even joining them on family vacations. My friends help me move, drive me to the airport, and support me in endless other ways both tangibly and emotionally. I prefer a small circle of close friendships, acting as ‘charging stations’ for my mind, body, and spirit. Some go to spontaneous concerts with me, others stay in and cook comfort food with me, and they all rewire my brain toward community and belonging.

My CREW: best friend Laura, her husband John, and their son Jay (and puppy Penny) – I spend so much time with them that Jay recognized my voice when he was born!

The family I nannied for for many years (and now very dear friends), watching the kids grow from babies to teenagers – here at a holiday lights outing together.

My Work

Anne and I opened our pediatric speech and occupational therapy clinic in November of 2018. Our clinic is my first “baby” and has been a complete labor of love. My work is worth mentioning for so many reasons. It’s where I’ve stepped into my strengths in leadership. It’s where I find so much fulfillment in nurturing and loving children, learning about development and best practice along the way. And between our team of therapists and the kids and families we serve, it’s an extension of my village. My work is a source of pride because of the way we have worked hard and been thoughtful about creating a loving, welcoming, and accepting pillar of our community.

In my element! Surrounded by kids, building language and teaching about emotions.

My Promises

These are my promises for any child who enters into my care: to do my best to take care of their body, heart, and soul in the way that they need; to listen to them, even at the end of a long day; to keep an open heart and mind; to get to know all the versions of them that awaken within them as they grow; to love who they were made to be; to honor all the parts of them and their story that don’t include me; and when I fail today, I will do better tomorrow.

These are my promises to the family of any child who enters my care: to honor their role, relationship, and connection; to be open and vulnerable; to commit to a lifetime of learning; and to regard them as my own family, too.

I am looking forward to any opportunity to meet you and build a potential connection. I dream of the day that I welcome all of you with open arms into my world. Wishing you peace and comfort and all the best support along this process.

All my love,

Alex
