Meet Maliyah: A Creative and Upbeat Teenager Looking for a Mentor Family

June 30, 2024 by kristina berg

Maliyah is a kind, funny, creative, and upbeat teenager. Whether she’s creating beautiful art, experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen, or diving into her various extracurricular activities, Maliyah is a motivated and joyful teen.

At school, Maliyah excels in art and English. She enjoyed participating in an after-school program called Beacons at the YMCA last school year, where she engaged in academic and artistic enrichment activities. She also participated in Juxtaposition Arts, where she was able to continue to develop her artistic talents and create new projects with mentors.

Maliyah will be 18 soon and is very independent. She is not interested in adoption; however, her team is looking for a mentor family that would be willing to support her and help her gain independent living skills. She will be participating in extended foster care and will be getting support through that as well.

Maliyah is an amazing and resilient youth who has been through a lot but still chooses to have joy and happiness in her life. —Hayley Persons, Child Specific Recruiter

The ideal mentor family for Maliyah would offer consistency, structure, love, and compassion as she navigates the next chapter of her life. She has not decided whether she wants to pursue college or jump straight into the workforce, however, she has stated that she is interested in becoming an art teacher or working with animals.

“Maliyah is an amazing and resilient youth who has been through a lot but still chooses to have joy and happiness in her life,” says her Child Specific Recruiter, Hayley. Maliyah’s strength and positivity are truly inspiring, and with the right support system, she is sure to achieve great things.

If you or someone you know might be interested in becoming a mentor family for Maliyah, please reach out to Hayley, her Child Specific Recruiter. Together, we can help this remarkable young woman thrive and reach her full potential.

Details to Note
Due to contracts with the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the cost of adopting a child from Minnesota foster care is virtually free to families.
