Car Seat Education

This hybrid course combines interactive online learning with hands-on instruction from a certified car seat safety technician. The cost of this class is $25 per person. Locations vary.

This class is also a great option for parents, grandparents, or any caregivers who want to learn more about transporting children safely.  If you are licensed to provide foster care (or childcare) for children aged 8 or younger, this course is required every 5 years.

B.E.S.T. takes approximately 2 hours to complete. The first hour takes place online. You will receive access to a learning management system and be guided through an interactive Car Seat Basics presentation. You must complete this presentation prior to attending the second hour of training. After completing your online coursework, you will attend an in-person session with a certified car seat technician. Instruction will take place at YOUR vehicle. If you have a car seat(s), this may be used for instruction, otherwise, Children’s Home will provide seats for you to practice with. In-person locations vary. Please sign up for an in-person date and location that works best for you. You will receive a certificate of completion during your in-person session.

This 3-hour training will guide participants through the proper selection and use of car seats under current Minnesota laws. This course is taught by a car seat technician and includes hands-on stations and the opportunity to practice with seats on a demonstration vehicle seat. This course takes place at the Children’s Home office building in St. Paul.

• Price: $350 for up to 20 people. $15 per person for each additional person.

This 2-hour training includes one hour of online video instruction followed by one hour of hands-on learning with a car seat technician. Children’s Home can provide car seats to practice with, or trainees may use their own seats. Hands-on instruction will take place at the trainee’s vehicle. Technicians can work with small groups of no more than 5 individuals during the hands-on learning time. Up to three technicians may be available. This course is available for travel (see “Additional Fees” below). This course meets the requirement for foster care and childcare licensing starting January 1, 2025.

• Price: $100 per group of up to 5 individuals.

Children’s Home car seat technicians are available to provide individualized instruction to community members during organized events. Each individual/family will receive 20-30 minutes with a technician at their own vehicle. For those currently transporting children, we will review proper use of their personal car seats. Those not currently caregiving will receive general education and an opportunity to practice with a sample car seat.

• Price: $100/hour for one technician. $50 per hour for each additional technician.

• Travel- Children’s Home will charge $50 per hour of travel plus $.56 per mile from the Children’s Home office in St. Paul.
