Community Closet

Relatives and kinship caregivers often find themselves suddenly stepping into a caregiving role without the material items or financial resources needed to support a child. At CH/LSS, we recognize these challenges and created the Community Closet to help remove barriers and ensure every youth has what they need to feel safe, comfortable, and supported.

Our Community Closet provides caregivers with free access to essential items. These resources help reduce financial stress and ensure caregivers can focus on what matters most: providing a nurturing environment for the youth in their care.

Why the Community Closet Matters

Many children entering foster care arrive with only the belongings they can carry, often transported in trash bags. At CH/LSS, we believe every child deserves dignity and comfort. The Community Closet was created to meet immediate needs and ensure families have the essentials to welcome a child into their home.

Thank you for supporting the children and families we serve.

Our Community Closet serves individuals and families using our services, this includes:

Foster Families who take in children with little information or time to prepare.

Emergency Shelter Care Providers expanding beyond what they were prepared for.

Relative/Kinship Caregivers who need help meeting licensing requirements, including having necessities like beds and proper fire extinguishers.

Expectant Parents, whether they make an adoption plan or not, who need basic care items for a new child and/or child(ren) in their care.

Youth residing in Minnesota Foster Care are served through our Child-Recruitment Services. This includes youth who may be aging out of care without permanency/adoption.

Families with Lower-Incomes adopting children from Minnesota Foster Care.
