Hello! We are Matt, Michael & Mila, and we are looking forward to growing our family through adoption. We are so grateful that you are taking the time to read our profile, and hope that getting this glimpse into our story and background will help you see that we could be a fit for your child. This journey isn’t easy, and we recognize that; but we are hopeful that through our experience of adopting Mila and our passion for providing a loving, nurturing environment for a child to grow, you will consider selecting our family and help us grow into a family of four!

Our Story:
Matt and Michael met in May of 2015, in downtown Minneapolis. Out and about with friends, they caught each other’s eye and soon after went on a first date walking around Lake Harriet. On that walk, one of the first questions Matt asked Michael was if he wanted to have kids in the future – that may seem intense for some to hear on a first date, but Michael answered with an emphatic yes (which was what Matt was hoping to hear), and the rest is history. From that point on we were inseparable, quickly realizing that this was going to be a forever thing. While our personalities could be described as opposite (Matt more introverted and analytical, Michael more extraverted and emotions on the sleeve-type) we enjoyed the same things, had similar life goals and priorities and had a genuine connection that was instant and long lasting.

We moved in together after about a year of dating and a few years later we got engaged. We got married in 2018 and have been married now for over 6.5 years. Minneapolis has been our home city throughout this time – although we have made plenty of time to travel and see the world as much as possible.

Adopting Mila:
We started our first journey of adoption with Children’s Home & LSS back in 2020 – which led to us connecting with Mila’s birth mother and her parents in December of 2021. After a sit-down interview at the Children’s Home & LSS office in St. Paul, we found out a week later that Mila’s birth mom had picked us to be her parents! We quickly established a great relationship with the birth mom and her parents – the birth mom even allowing us to come with her to her doctor appointments leading up to her birth. We will never forget the first time we were able to hear Mila’s heartbeat – a truly magical moment and feeling. We were at the hospital when Mila was born and next day all of us were in the room together (birth mom and her parents) taking turns holding Mila and talking about our future together.

Open adoption was always something we were interested in, and Mila’s birth mother was as well – so we have kept our regular meetings (about once every 2-3 months) and have a shared photo album where we share photos and videos of Mila throughout her adventures and life moments. It has worked out so well and we greatly appreciate the relationship we have developed. We are extremely flexible in whatever works best for the birth family when it comes to openness.

About Michael:
Written by Matt
Michael is a caring, social and charismatic guy. When we first started dating, I was dumbfounded by how often we would get stopped by people who knew him from his “tennis days.” (He won two state championships and played for the University of Minnesota). But it goes beyond how well he played; he leaves an impact on every person he meets. He stays connected to people in a way that seems to last the test of time. He is incredibly driven and takes a lot of pride in his work; his co-workers are constantly singing his praises. Michael is also one of the most thoughtful people I have ever met. He never misses anyone’s birthday and always finds the time to check in on people, just so they know he’s thinking of them. He is an incredibly dedicated father who is always there for Mila and makes sure she knows how proud we are of her any chance he gets.

About Matt:
Written by Michael
Matt is a gentle, generous and genuine soul. The first to offer help to a friend who is moving or needing a hand fixing something at their house, he is described as a great friend by everyone. Matt loves to take care of the yard and finds joy in “curating” seasonal decorations for the home (I really can’t even count the number of seasonal pillows we have and have asked we set a yearly budget on new pillow purchases). Growing up, Matt helped his mom with her in-home daycare and became an expert with kids of all ages. He has proven he is able to change a newborn’s diaper with just one hand, which is very impressive if you ask me. He inspires me to be a better person, to consider other’s when I make decisions, and to think about what I can do to make someone else’s day better – he truly personifies what it means to be kind. Matt is hardworking and has a steady presence; he is the best dad to Mila and partner that I could ask for.

Our Promise:
We can only try to imagine how difficult this decision is for you – but we are so grateful and thankful for the opportunity to be your child’s parents. We promise to love your child with everything we have and provide an environment that enables them to be the best they can be. Instead of trying to mold them into whatever is considered ‘normal’ – we will guide them while they grow into whatever they were meant to be. We will consider their cultural background and be open to whatever religious background they choose (and not having one is a fine choice as well). Our goal is to just provide them with love and the confidence to be themselves, while treating everyone with love and respect. Thank you for taking the time to read our profile – we are so excited for the next step in this journey and would be honored to be a part of you and your child’s life story.
