Adoptee Support Group for Kids

A Support Group for Adoptees Ages 5-13

In our adoptee support groups, we engage in age-appropriate discussions and activities about diversity and culture, friendship, race, school issues, adoption, and birth families to help build connections among adoptees. Each group is open to adopted children and their families, regardless of placing agency. In addition to the Adoptee Group, a corresponding Parent Group will take place at the same time.

Groups meet monthly on Saturdays from September-May (excluding December). Our 2024-2025 groups will meet in person at the Children’s Home Main Office, 1605 Eustis Street, Saint Paul, MN 55108 on September 21, October 19, November 16, January 18, February 15, March 15, April 19, and May 17. 

Group Meeting Times:

• Lollipop Group (younger children): 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. 

• Bubblegum Group (older children): 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. 

Please note: Peer and age groups will be determined based on the ages of children who register. 

Adoptee Groups:
The groups are broken into different sessions by age, within each session children may be divided into smaller groups based on their age. Sessions will include fun activities on topics such as how to be a good friend, what makes a family, tough feelings and calming strategies, handing comments about adoption, and more!

Parent Group:
While the children meet, a corresponding parent session takes place for parents to listen and learn from each other. The parent group session will focus on a mixture of education and support, including topics such as “calm bodies through occupational therapy, trauma and the body”, Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), parenting and technology, encouraging healthy sexual relationships/boundaries, and more. Topics will be parent-focused to the parents that participate in the group.

Cost:
The cost to attend this eight-session support group is $225 per child and includes the cost of the corresponding parent session that meets at the same time as each adoptee support group. Families can register additional adopted children for this support group at a cost of $100 per additional child.

Billing:
After registering, you will receive an invoice for payment (typically within 2 business days). Payments are non-refundable.

Childcare:
Unfortunately, we are unable to provide childcare for younger/older siblings during group meeting times. We ask that only children who are registered for the group attend along with their parent(s). Thank you for your understanding.
