What is Adoption?

September 18, 2015 by Staff Contributor

Love Without Boundaries interviewed children in orphanages in China and asked them, “What is Adoption?” It is an absolute must-watch video that gives you a glimpse into the thoughts of these children waiting for adoption.

So, how would you answer the question, “What is adoption?”

Many times, when people think of adoption, they may imagine an infant or toddler joining a new family. But this isn’t necessarily the case. Last year, one-third of the waiting children who found families through Children’s Home were 5-8 years old, and 73% were ages 3 and older.

Because these older children have already had life experiences, adoption may mean something different to them than you originally conceptualized. It could mean a second chance, a family that provides them outlets for their passions, or a sense of security that they previously lacked.

With so many older children in need, we ask you to consider whether you could help them define adoption as you bring them into their forever families. Below are five reasons to consider older child adoption. If you’d like to learn more, we encourage you to watch our recent webinar about older child adoption, or to contact our Adoption Information Specialists (phone: 651.646.7771 | 800.952.9302 or email: [email protected]).
