Help Dajanae Find a Family Before She Turns 18

February 16, 2016 by Staff Contributor

Dajanae softly smiles in a white shirt.Dajanae waits in Minnesota foster care for a family and turns 18 in April

Every year, over 23,000 youth age out of foster care when they turn 18.1 These teens may not be young children, but they are still in need of a strong support system that is dedicated to helping them grow and prosper. They need families that can help them with the transition to adulthood, to teach them adult skills, about applying for college and jobs, how to maturely work through emotions, and so much more. Most importantly these youth need to know that someone in the world loves them, cares for them, and will catch them when they fall—because we all fall at one point or another.

One of the amazingly resilient youth that is at risk of aging out is this young woman, Dajanae. She currently lives in Minnesota foster care and will turn 18 in April. Dajanae describes herself as loving, artistic, silly, musical, energetic, and wild. She is an outgoing young lady with a sense of humor all her own. Dajanae would like to spend much of her time making bracelets, and many other arts and crafts. She is a girl who loves to sing and dance, specifically to Beyoncé and John Legend. She also really loves Chinese food and Chipotle!

All families will be considered, but when asked what she would like in a family,  Dajanae explains that she wants a two-parent family with younger siblings! She also loves puppies and would love a home with a dog of any age. Dajanae is really looking for a family that will love her unconditionally. She also needs a family that will help her stay connected with some birth family following adoption.

Please help us find Dajanae a family before her 18th birthday so she can become one member of a loving family, instead of one more youth to be added to a statistic.

details To note

Because Dajanae waits in Minnesota foster care, only Minnesota residents are eligible to adopt her. The majority of costs to clients adopting a child under Minnesota state guardianship are covered by a contract with the Minnesota Department of Human Services.
