Omari is an imaginative, playful, charismatic, helpful and quirky 17-year-old. He is also thoughtful and empathetic. He cares deeply about fairness and making sure that everyone is treated equally. He loves staying active and playing sports—his favorite sports are basketball and football. He recently went to a Lynx game with his Child-Specific Recruiter, Stephanie, and had an amazing time. He was also able to meet Minnesota Twins Player, Joe Mauer, and loved the experience. Omari is happiest when he is out of the house and making new friends.
Omari is thriving in his current foster home where he receives a lot of support and guidance to succeed. In the last couple of months he’s realized that he can grow up and take on more responsibility. He is currently working with Connections to Independence to learn life and job-training skills. He’s making a lot of new friends through the program and loves it—he’s even got an internship lined up for this fall! Additionally, a local orthodontist has donated his services to provide Omari braces.
Even with his progress, Omari would love to find a permanent, adoptive family before his 18th birthday. Omari would thrive with parents who provide structure and support and help guide him towards independence. His adoptive family should be supportive of his need to maintain contact with his older sister and grandfather.
