Meet Amber: A Creative, Artistic, Free Spirit

August 1, 2022 by Emily Cain

16-year-old teen wearing scarf outside in winterMeet Amber, a 16-year-old free spirit who loves spending time on their grandma’s boat with friends, attending equine therapy, playing video games, and attending art class at school. Amber is very friendly when meeting new people and can strike up a conversation and relate to almost everyone about anything.

“They have a huge heart for animals and are overjoyed when they see dogs outside during our visits!” says Colleen Kue, Amber’s Child Specific Recruiter. “Amber LOVES all types of animals and would do very well with a family with pets.”

When thinking about the type of family Amber would thrive in, Colleen says, “Amber would do best in a two-parent household that is already experienced in parenting. A family that can provide guidance, support, and respect for Amber is essential.”

I am most looking forward to having someone to support me in my time of need, and be there for me no matter what occurs. -Amber

Amber identifies as Jewish, so it will be important for their future family to support them in celebrating religious holidays and attending synagogue. Parents who can be adaptable and supportive if Amber’s religious identity changes or evolves will also ve very important. Amber does not like it when something is pushed onto them to learn or attend. Although Amber currently identifies as Jewish and grew up practicing this religion with their birth family, they are open to learning and expanding their beliefs as part of their religious journey.

Amber struggles with boundaries, learning to keep space from peers, and time management. The best way to support Amber is to continue to teach them about boundaries and time management while acknowledging their feelings.

Amber is a bright, creative, and outgoing teen. They are very easy to get along with! -Colleen Kue, Child Specific Recruiter

Nonbniary teen portraitThey require a moderate-to-high level of supervision with their tendency to test boundaries and rules. Amber needs a home that has a flexible work-life balance to ensure they get the attention they require. Amber needs a household that has structure and can set realistic expectations of them.

When thinking about their forever family, Amber says, “I am most looking forward to having someone to support me in my time of need, and be there for me no matter what occurs.”

“Amber is a bright, creative, and outgoing teen. They are very easy to get along with! Amber would thrive with a family who can help set boundaries and support through life’s challenges as they approach adulthood,” says Colleen.

Details to Note

Due to contracts with the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the cost of adopting a child from Minnesota foster care is virtually free to families.
