Destiny, 12, and Desire, 8, are sisters who are full of energy, love to eat good food, and enjoy spending time with their family and friends.
Destiny is charismatic, considerate, and mature. She is learning how to do nails and hair and is getting really good at it! She plans to go to cosmetology school once she graduates from high school.
Desire is determined, fun-loving, and energetic. “She is always looking to have a good time! She is full of energy —more than an 8-year-old should!” says Colleen, their Child Specific Recruiter.
At their most recent visit with Colleen, the girls spent time working on their life book (a document that highlights major life milestones, memories, and birth family connections). Afterward, they got lunch at Golden Corral, the girl’s favorite restaurant!
When thinking about the type of family structure Destiny and Desire would do best in, Colleen says, “The girls would do best with a two-parent family with a mom and dad or a single female home in the Twin Cities Metro Area. Both girls would do well with other kids in the home, younger, older, or around the same age, and would do well with pets in the home! Both girls are familiar with dogs.”
In order to thrive with their forever family, the girls need experienced parents who can support them in maintaining contact with birth siblings, parents who are trauma informed and who are able to support their racial identity, a diverse community of support, and a willingness to collaborate with the girls’ service providers.
“Destiny and Desire are very close to their older siblings,” says Colleen. “They are very important family members that Destiny and Desire look up to. It’s very important they see their older siblings regularly, especially for holidays, birthdays, and anniversaries.”
As with all siblings, Destiny and Desire have typical sibling disagreements/arguments with each other. The best way to support both girls is to acknowledge their feelings and share with them the correct way to handle disagreements or arguments respectfully towards one another.
Their ultimate goal in finding a forever family is to never have to move out again. Stability, consistency, and safety are important qualities their forever family should be able to provide.
“Destiny and Desire are wonderful girls who would thrive in a fun-loving, committed, and supportive home. It’s crucial to ensure that they’ll both get the attention they require and maintain contact with their older siblings regularly,” says Colleen.
