Meet Genesis: An Empathetic and Artistic Teen

March 27, 2020 by Emily Cain

Genesis is a caring and animated 16-year-old who is hoping to find an open-hearted and accepting family who can provide support during all of life’s most important moments.

“Genesis is so easy to get along with, you fall in love with him right away,” says his child-specific recruiter, Diana. “He really cares about other people and their well-being.”

Genesis brings his gifts of empathy and compassion to every aspect of life, especially when he’s spending time with his church youth group. He loves connecting with other young people who share similar interests and values.

Theater is also an important outlet for Genesis. “I love the fact that I can just get away from everything and be someone I’m not. I can be Prince Charming from Cinderella or I can be the prince from The Princess and the Frog.”

“Music has been an important coping mechanism that helps provide emotional comfort,” says Diana. “Playing music helps him calm down and express emotions in a different way. He even wrote a song that expresses his feelings about being in the foster care system.”

Over the past year, Genesis has also been learning to play guitar. “If I could be good at anything, I’d be crazy good at guitar!” he says with a huge smile on his face. “Music has been an important coping mechanism that helps provide emotional comfort,” says Diana. “Playing music helps him calm down and express emotions in a different way. He even wrote a song that expresses his feelings about being in the foster care system.”

As he looks toward the future, Genesis really, really hopes to find a family. “He’s very active in this process and is doing everything possible to find his forever family,” says Diana. He would prefer a same-sex couple who are very open and accepting of his identity. Genesis does great with kids and would thrive with or without a sibling. Recently, he has even become a mentor to a younger kid in his community—something his compassionate and empathetic personality naturally lends itself to.

“Genesis has so much potential—he just needs to find that home base to guide him through life’s ups and downs,” says Diana.

Details to Note

Due to contracts with the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the cost of adopting a child from Minnesota foster care is virtually free to families.
