Hi! We’re Kylie and Bill from St. Paul, Minnesota. Thank you for taking the time to learn about us and the family we hope to build. We have so much respect for you and the journey you are on. Many of our close friends and family are part of adoptive families, and we have learned so much from them about the benefits and challenges of adoption.

As you look through our profile, we hope you will see the loving, caring, and committed family we are. We are excited to grow our family through adoption.

Thank you for your time. We look forward to hearing from you!

About us

We met over ten years ago through friends, and we started dating in 2011, right before Kylie moved to Indiana for graduate school. Starting out long distance was hard, but it ultimately strengthened our commitment to each other. After Kylie finished school we moved in together, and in 2015 we bought our awesome house in St. Paul.

Our partnership is built on a foundation of mutual respect, trust, and love. We bring strength, stability, and meaning into each other’s life. We are a little goofy, a little serious, and a lot of fun.

We both love kids and have always wanted to build a family together. We had talked about the possibility of adoption before we started trying to conceive. When it became clear we couldn’t have biological children, we quickly became excited about adopting.

Meet Bill

Bill is from White Bear Lake, Minnesota. He manages mobile technology for a local financial company. He likes that he gets to help people and that every day is different. He’s been a volunteer reading tutor at Rondo Library for 7 years. Bill loves spending his free time with family, friends, and Kylie and Dixie.

Bill’s favorite things

  • Cross-country skiing
  • Twins games
  • Sci-fi (especially Star-Trek!)
  • Plays and museums
  • Boating

Kylie says:

“Bill is loving, kind, and a natural caregiver. He keeps me grounded, focused, and makes sure I set aside time to take care of myself.”

Meet Kylie

Kylie grew up in Indiana with two sisters and a lot of cousins. She is a consultant for programs that are working to make Minnesota a better place for everyone. She also volunteers in ESL and GED classes at Rondo Library. Kylie used to make children’s museum exhibits and likes to use her building skills around the house.

Kylie’s favorite things

  • Working in her gardens
  • Camping and long hikes
  • Bike rides around the Cities
  • Reading in the backyard
  • Playing soccer

Bill says:

“Kylie is the strongest, smartest, most amazing person I have ever met. She is empathetic and incredibly curious. She can do anything she sets her mind to!”

Meet Dixie

Dixie is a 9-year-old bundle of energy. She loves attention and is very patient with kids of all ages.

Dixie’s favorite things

  • Long walks by the Mississippi
  • Chasing squirrels and rabbits out of the yard
  • Keeping an eye on the neighborhood from our front steps

Our home

We live in St. Paul’s Midway neighborhood. We can walk to parks, playgrounds, and restaurants. We’re also a short bike ride to Lake Como or the soccer stadium. We’re close to the light rail and Bill takes the train to work every day!

We like to be in our yard as much as we can, and if Kylie isn’t gardening, we are usually sitting on the front steps talking with the neighbors who walk and bike by.

Our house is just as cheery inside as outside. Every room is painted its own bright color and most rooms have a cozy place to read, play, or relax.

Our traditions

We celebrate holidays and important events in our lives with good food, friends, and family. Christmas, Hanukkah, and Passover are all a big deal in our house.

We also like to celebrate the anniversaries of important events in our lives, including the day we met and the day Dixie joined our family. We look forward to adding celebrations to honor our child and their heritage.

Family and fun

We spend lots of time with our families, even though they don’t all live nearby. We take several trips a year to see Kylie’s family in Indiana and Bill’s family in Florida. That means our child will get lots of time with cousins and grandparents.

We enjoy travelling and our vacations usually mean a lot of time outside hiking, cross country skiing, or playing on the beach. We are working on visiting every Minnesota State Park, and every 4th of July we take a weeklong camping trip to a new one.

Our favorite things to do close to home include Twins games, outdoor concerts, and local events and festivals. Some of our favorites are Northern Spark (an overnight arts festival), the Little Mekong Night Market, and the St. Paul Winter Carnival.

Our family

We love to celebrate life, give thanks for how lucky we are, and work toward making the world the best place it can be for everyone. We are so excited to expand our family through adoption. We can’t wait to pass along our passions, like teaching our child how to set up a campsite!

Openness

We can’t stress enough how important it is to us to have a healthy, open relationship with our child’s birth family. Through close friends and family, we have seen how important openness will be for our child’s self and belonging.

We believe that it’s impossible to be loved by too many people. We look forward to making room in our family for everyone who loves our child.

Our promise

We promise to love our child, to give them the support they need to be the best version of themself, and to always be open and honest with our child about their adoption story.
