Hello!

We are the O’Rourke family (rhymes with “fork”) in Rochester, Minnesota. We met right before the COVID-19 lockdown when Luke was just a baby; Laura had started her family as a single mother by choice through fertility treatments and open sperm donor. We fell in love quickly, married in the middle of the pandemic, and Scott officially adopted Luke. Liam was born following extensive fertility treatments. When doctors advised against another pregnancy, we found ourselves returning to a conversation we had early in our relationship about our shared dream of adoption. Adoption has been close to both of our hearts since childhood. We are fully committed to an open adoption and envision mutual love, trust, and lifelong connections.

All About Scott (through Laura’s eyes) 

Scott is such an amazing husband and dad, always putting the needs of his family first. He has perfected his chocolate chip cookie recipe and loves wrestling and building blanket forts with the boys. Scott is adventurous and an eternal optimist, always seeing the best in others. He has a phenomenal singing voice and is known for his strong sense of justice.

All About Laura (through Scott’s eyes) 

Laura is such an incredible mom and wife. Her passion for learning and striving to be better every day is contagious. This can be seen not only in her work as a nurse practitioner but with her attention and dedication to our boys’ growth and development. Everything that she does, every decision that she makes, has a sense of forethought to position our boys and family in the best way possible. She is my best friend and truly made to be a mom.

• Likes: pickles, staying up late, rainy days, ballet, true crime, Mexican food

All About the Boys

Luke is the most creative and imaginative boy you will ever meet. He is incredibly in tune to the emotions of others and tells us often how he wants to help take care of everyone. He loves painting, dancing, and making everyone laugh. He is so excited to become a big brother again.

• Likes: donuts, baking with Dad, Pokémon, holidays, animals, nature walks

Liam is as rough and tough as they come. We joke that he is a reincarnated Viking because of his strong personality and warrior spirit. He has no fear and has required more than one ER visit for stitches. We have no doubt that Liam will make a great big brother – he’s had the best example with Luke.

• Likes: balls, Blippi, popcorn, riding scooters, following big brother around

Our Promise

We promise to love and respect our future child’s birth family as an extension of our own. We will honor their heritage and birth story and share it with them from day one in age and developmentally appropriate ways. We will love this child beyond measure and are committed to meeting their unique needs throughout life.
