Mathew is a funny, thoughtful, and imaginative youth who loves science and discovering new things! He is naturally curious about the world around him and loves to spend time outdoors, reading books, going on walks, and playing chess and board games.
It is important that Mathew’s future forever family can provide a lot of patience, attention, and love. “Mathew needs a supportive and encouraging family that can help him to feel that he is doing a good job in school and in society, and also teach him appropriate behaviors in both settings,” says Sara Jeske, his child-specific recruiter. Mathew’s future family will also need to support his biological family relationships with his maternal Grandmother and siblings, all of whom live in the Twin Cities Metro.
As he thinks about his forever family, Mathew says, “I hope they will have pets and other kids to play with!” Wherever Mathew lives, his need for open spaces is very important for his overall well-being. Mathew can be disruptive and impulsive, and if he feels cornered he could act out with aggressive behaviors. He does very well with people that give him the space he needs and the ability to share his current feelings.
Mathew has experienced a great deal of trauma in his life, so it’s important that his forever family be trauma-informed. It is important that his future parent(s) have the ability to create a sense of safety and structure while maintaining patience and empathy. Mathew is excited but cautious in moving forward with a forever family, but with the right fit, he would really thrive.
Despite all he has experienced, Mathew is a great kid. “He’s very funny and playful and has really matured in the past couple of years,” says Sara. “Mathew is fun to hang out with and take out into the community! He’s very inquisitive and loves to learn.”
