Meet Katelynn: A Friendly and Outgoing 16-Year-Old!

November 12, 2025 by Staff Contributor

Katelynn is a friendly, independent and outgoing 16-year-old. She enjoys crime dramas and would like to be a detective one day. When she’s not dreaming of solving a mystery, she enjoys going out for sushi and coffee and hopes to put her love of animals to good use someday by volunteering at an animal shelter.

Katelynn enjoys creative subjects in school like art and technology. Katelynn’s child specific recruiter (CSR), Michelle says “Her favorite class is “How to make almost anything” which is a technology class where students get to build things.” Outside of school, Katelynn enjoys baking, listening to music, spending time with friends, and, more recently, has begun enjoying Legos.

When thinking about her forever home, Katelynn prefers to stay in the suburban environment that she currently lives in. “She would thrive in a single female or a two-mother home. Ideally, with no other siblings in the home,” says Michelle. She would also enjoy a family that has pets or is open to getting one. Downtime is hard for Katelynn, and she struggles with transitions and loves to know what to expect. Good boundaries and a consistent schedule will help her to be successful. Katelynn also receives counseling and psychiatry services that will need to be maintained.

“Katelynn needs a family that will provide her with some independence, support and guide her into adulthood by helping her navigate complex friendships, and teach her relationship skills,” says Michelle. Katelynn struggles in peer relationships and has had trouble with feelings of jealousy. She is learning to be a good friend and how to be positive with peers. Caregivers can help by modeling healthy ways to navigate relationships and by providing a safe space for her to express her feelings.

Katelynn has siblings and grandparents, and while she does not currently have frequent contact with them, it important that the option remains available to her.

“Katelynn is a smart, friendly teenager who wants the chance to live a normal teenage life,” says Michelle. “She wants to find a loving family who will support her and respect her for who she is and guide her as she becomes an independent young adult.”

Details to Note
Due to contracts with the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the cost of adopting a child from Minnesota foster care is virtually free to families.
