Meet Makennah: A Vibrant and Caring 17-Year-Old!

June 24, 2026 by Staff Contributor

Makennah is 17 years old and is big hearted, tenacious and vibrant. She is very talented in nail art and hair. She enjoys doing her own nails and her friends. She has an interest in fashion. She also enjoys a tasty sweet treat when she can too!

Makenna would thrive best in families located in the suburbs. She would do great with other siblings and pets as well. She would do best in either a two parent or single female household. “The family that Makennah becomes a part of should be willing to provide stability and support,” says her child specific recruiter Colleen Kue. “Even once she’s in adulthood, it is important they provide consistency and connection.”

Makennah has birth family connections that are important for her to maintain. “Makennah’s caregivers should be open to having a relationship with her birth family with regular contact, visits and willingness to transport her when needed,” says Colleen.

Makennah can have struggles with mental health and managing her emotions. It is important that her caregivers ensure she is able to continue her therapy services and have regular check-ins with Makennah. “It is important that Makennah has a safe, open space where she can connect, feel loved, supported and understood,” says Colleen. “Makennah values strong familial connections, so it is essential that she feels comfortable and supported opening up to her caregivers.”

Makennah is approaching adulthood, and caregivers will need to be willing to support her as she navigates this transition. Providing guidance and teaching her as she continues to learn and grow. While Makennah is eager to become an adult, she still needs to develop basic independent living skills. “Makennah has a vibrant, outgoing and personable personality, along with a great sense of humor. She would be a wonderful addition to a family that is eager to support an older youth, while also providing the connection and support she continues to value,” says Colleen.

Details to Note
Due to contracts with the Minnesota Department of Human Services, the cost of adopting a child from Minnesota foster care is virtually free to families.
