Kim and Ross

Matched

Home Location: Southeast MN

Family Status: Couple with Children

Children in Home: One

Child Ethnicity: Caucasian

We’re the Haroldsons. We met in 2020, a unique opportunity to spend lots of time together. We quickly formed a strong connection.

Early on, Ross shared his dream of buying land outside Minneapolis, while Kim talked about her hopes of marriage and children. Eight months after meeting, we sold our homes in the cities, bought land south of the Twins Cities, and were married on our property, surrounded by family and friends.

Today, our land is home to our family, dogs, and we hope someday another little one will join us.

In our family we…

  • enjoy slow mornings,
  • spend Fridays with Great Grandma,
  • teach consent and respect for boundaries,
  • enjoy meals together with no phones at the table,
  • spend time in nature,
  • apologize when we make mistakes.

We want our children to grow up knowing that family is a place where you are loved unconditionally, your voice matters, and people take care of one another.

Our Family & 3 Rescue Dogs

A Border Collie, Australian Cattle Dog, and Black Lab, are very much part of our family.

Matthew has learned to love and respect them, including how to handle their enthusiastic doggy kisses. His advice for a future sibling: close your eyes and mouth, hold your hands straight out, and walk backward until you reach a wall, furniture, or an adult’s legs!

Our Traditions

We love the traditions that bring our family together: a New Year’s Eve Christmas-tree bonfire with friends, Christmas at our cabin with Ross’s extended family, and the Minnesota State Fair.

Kim, The Heart of Our Family

She loves Ross, Matthew, and our three dogs fiercely and makes family a priority. She also loves creating connections with friends, other parents, and extended family through gatherings, outings, and vacations.

After college, Kim became a flight attendant and spent her twenties traveling the world. By 28 she had visited every continent except Antarctica, saving it for her honeymoon- 11 years later!

These days, she enjoys reading parenting books, finding fun activities for Matthew, and boxing with an all-women’s group twice a week.

Ross, The Rock of Our Family

From administering Kim’s first IVF injection to being by her side when Matthew was born and navigating adoption, he has been present and involved. Ross lovingly cared for both of us during those early postpartum days. He is a wonderful husband and father, and can’t wait to have another little one around to love.

After college, Ross served in the Peace Corps in Tanzania, teaching high school chemistry and traveling throughout Africa. When Matthew was nine months old, our family joined Ross for his 15-year Peace Corps reunion in Maine.

Today, you’ll find Ross making pancakes, eggs, and bacon on lazy mornings or experimenting with his pizza oven. Our favorite pizza has olive oil, garlic, goat cheese, zucchini, lemons, and hot peppers-seriously, it’s delicious!

Matthew, Our Energetic Little Guy

Loves climbing, reading, singing, swimming, and playing with his dogs. He is incredibly kind and gentle, especially with babies. At school and family gatherings, we often find him sitting with the little ones.

He is close with his grandparents, great-grandma, aunts, uncles, and cousins. We joke that Great-Grandma is his favorite, followed by the dogs, then us. At least we made the top three!

Our Promise

If we are fortunate enough to welcome another child into our family through adoption, we promise to love and respect their birth family. We hope for an open adoption and would welcome the opportunity to build a relationship in whatever way feels right and healthy for everyone involved.

Most importantly, our child will always know their story. We will talk openly and naturally about adoption from the beginning, so they grow up knowing where they came from, how deeply they were loved, and that their birth family is an important part of who they are.

We hope to give another child a childhood filled with family, laughter, and love–and to make sure they know from their very first days that they were wanted, cherished, and loved beyond measure.

Thank you for getting to know us!
