Intro:

Hello! We are Matt and Michael, and we are looking forward to growing our family through adoption.

We are so grateful that you are taking the time to read our profile, and hope that getting this glimpse into our story and background will help you see if we could be a fit for your child. This journey can be difficult for all who are involved, but we’re hopeful and thankful that we will get the chance to provide, love and care for a child and give them the world.

Our Story:

Michael and Matt met in May of 2015 downtown Minneapolis. Michael was the first to approach Matt and came up with the very romantic line of “you’re tall” (Matt is 6’8” and of course had heard someone say that probably a thousand times). But noting that Matt was busy in another conversation, Michael decided to regroup with his friends. Little did Michael know that Matt wanted to talk more, so Matt asked a mutual friend for Michael’s name and reached out via social media and asked if he would be willing to go on a date. Michael agreed and their first date was walking around Lake Harriet with Ellie, Matt’s miniature schnauzer. On that walk, one of the questions Matt asked Michael was if he wanted to have kids in the future – that may seem intense for some to hear on a first date, but Michael answered with an emphatic yes (which was what Matt was hoping to hear), and the rest is history.

From that point on we were inseparable, quickly realizing that this was going to be a forever thing. While our personalities could be described as opposite (Matt more introverted and analytical, Michael more extraverted and emotions on the sleeve-type) we enjoyed the same things, had similar life goals and priorities, and had a genuine connection that was instant and long lasting. We moved in together after about a year of dating and a few years later we were engaged. We got married in 2018 and have been married now for over 3 years. Minneapolis has been our home city throughout this time – although we have made plenty of time to travel and see the world as much as possible – we have done a lot to make our home what it is today and are now ready for a new member to join our family.

About Michael (written by Matt):

Michael is a caring, social, and charismatic guy. When we first started dating, I was dumbfounded by how often we would get stopped by people who knew him from his “tennis days.” (He won two state championships and played for the University of Minnesota). But it goes beyond how well he played; he leaves an impact on every person he meets. He stays connected to people in a way that seems to last the test of time. He is incredibly driven and takes a lot of pride in his work; his co-workers are constantly singing his praises. Michael is also one of the most thoughtful people I have ever met. He never misses anyone’s birthday and always finds the time to check in on people, just so they know he’s thinking of them. He’s going to be an incredibly dedicated father who will be at every practice cheering them on, making sure our child knows how proud we are of them.

About Matt (written by Michael):

Matt is a gentle, generous, and genuine soul. The first to offer help to a friend who is moving or needing a hand fixing something at their house, he is described as a great friend by everyone. Matt loves to take care of the yard and finds joy in “curating” seasonal decorations for the home (I really can’t even count the number of seasonal pillows we have and have asked we set a yearly budget on new pillow purchases). Growing up, Matt helped his mom with her in-home daycare and became an expert with kids of all ages. He claims to be able to change a newborn’s diaper with just one hand, which is very impressive if you ask me. Matt is SO ready to be a father and I am so thankful that I am on this journey with him. He inspires me to be a better person, to consider other’s when I make decisions, and to think about what I can do to make someone else’s day better – he truly personifies what it means to be kind. Matt is hardworking and a steady presence; he is going to be the best dad.

Our Family & Friends:

Michael grew up in a smaller western suburb of Minnesota where he shared time between his mom and dad’s homes. Later in life his mom remarried and had two kids – so two half siblings came when Michael was 11 and 13. This was a great experience for him, as he was able to help with the little kiddos and see what raising kids was all about. Michael’s dad’s side of the family is HUGE. His dad has 7 other brothers and sisters and many cousins. Family gatherings are always a blast!

Matt grew up in a small town in South Dakota with his parents and 3 siblings. He also had a very close relationship with his grandparents who lived in town and would frequently spend time at their house watching his grandma play cards with her friends. His siblings grew up and now all have kids of their own (totaling 7 nieces and nephews, of whom we spend a lot of time with). They live in the Midwest and we get together with them for every holiday.

Friends are very important to us – we are so lucky to have made the friendships we have over the years. We even host a friendship night at our house every Thursday, making dinner and playing games or watching a show together. Our support system is amazing, and we have had many friends who have recently had kids and are excited to join them on that journey.

Our Home & Pets:

We live in Minneapolis and love our community. We frequently take walks around the lakes and try all the new restaurants we can. We also enjoy going to the local parks and playing tennis and pickleball. Our house is our joy and our friends enduringly refer to it as “the Lodge.” We love our backyard and having people come over to sit on our deck and let the dogs run around and play.

Ellie the Schnauzer: Ellie is 11.5 years old and truly is the one that runs the house. She is very aware of everything that goes on and will follow you everywhere. She loves belly rubs but is NOT a lap dog. She prefers to sit at the other end of the couch and judge you. Her favorite treat is a carrot stick.

Finn the Dachshund: Finn is 6.5 years old and was adopted from the humane society. If he could spend every second under a blanket in a dog bed, he would. Sleeping is his main skill, and he has mastered it. His favorite treat is cheese or anything that falls to the ground while Matt is cooking dinner.

Our Promise:

We can only try to imagine how difficult this decision is for you – but we are so grateful and thankful for the opportunity to be your child’s parents. We promise to love your child with everything we have and provide an environment that enables them to be the best they can be. Instead of trying to mold them into whatever is considered ‘normal’ – we will guide them while they grow into whatever they were meant to be. We will consider their cultural background and be open to whatever religious background they choose (and not having one is a fine choice as well). Our goal is to just provide them with love and the confidence to be themselves, while treating everyone with love and respect.

Thank you for taking the time to read our profile – we are so excited for the next step in this journey and would be honored to be a part of you and your child’s life story.
